Australian troops are beginning to move around the Al Muthanna province, and wherever they go they receive a genuine welcome from the Iraqi people. The Australian’s of the Al Muthanna Task Group are based at Camp Smitty, located near the Al Muthanna provincial city of As Samawah. Camp Smitty is home to Task Force Eagle, the joint British - Australian organisation comprised of the British Army’s The Light Dragoons and the Australian Army’s 450-strong Al Muthanna Task Group. Task Force Eagle is responsible for assisting the Iraqi security forces to provide security in the province, as well as providing training for both the Iraqi Army and the police service in the region.
