Coalition Operation of Multinational Forces in Iraq
Since March 2005, the Contingent has been reinforced by six soldiers serving in Baghdad with the Multinational Security Transition Command in Iraq (MNSTC-I) and the NATO Training Mission in Iraq (NTM-I). The primary goal of the mission is to help create new security structures in Iraq. The trainers have been engaged in training selected groups of commanders, in assisting a build-up of the Police Academy and the Training Education and Doctrine Center (TEDC).
The primary mission of the present Czech Military Police Contingent is to contribute to training and professional preparation of new Iraqi Police personnel. The training was conducted for the most part of last year at the Police Academy in Az Zubayr, while at present the training takes place at the Al Shaibah Base, close to the City of Basra.
Till the end of 2005, the Czech military contingent also included a Czech surgical team (three doctors and three nurses), which, under the command of Major Dr. Aleš KOPŘIVA, served in a British Field Hospital.
The Military Police Contingent of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic is located at the Al Shaibah Base, Basra Province, in southern Iraq, and is under the command of the British-led Multinational Division South East.
The mission of Czech military policemen began in 2003. "Since that time, Czech policemen have trained approximately 10 thousand Iraqi policemen," said Colonel Jiří Neubauer, Commander of the 10th MP Contingent, on the arrival in Prague on 20 June 2006
