On August 21, 2009, the YMCA of Greater New York honored Coney Island native and international womenÕs judo pioneer for her lifetime of contributions to womenÕs competitive judo during a ceremony with colleagues, friends and family at the Prospect Park YMCA in Brooklyn. At the ceremony, the YMCA awarded the gold medal Kanokogi rightfully won in 1959.
