SmugMug > keywords > seal > Grey Seal Pup in Sandstorm - Donna Nook Away from the shelter of the inshore sand dunes, the November offshore wind was cold and unrelenting. It was hard to see how some the seals born on the windward side of the outer dunes would survive. The outer dunes were much lower than the inshore dunes and probably only a metre above the kilometer wide intervening tidal area. These dunes had no grass to protect the sand from the wind and - as a result - there was a constant, sand filled gale whipping across them, just deep enough to envelop any of the seals lying there.
